Project Description:

Missionaries in the Philippines have requested that SportsPlus send a team to work with them using sports to minister to the people in their communities. Be a part of helping athletes in a local high school compete on a local and national level in the sports of basketball and volleyball. As you help them achieve their goals athletically, you can be a part of their coming to know Christ as Savior. Feel the excitement of seeing lives changed and futures influenced because of your time and service.

Local churches will be responsible for follow-up through Bible studies and campus outreach.

The SportsPlus training camp will take place from June 30-July 2, 2009. Volunteers will train with other mission teams and will then depart from the Atlanta airport on July 2 to go on their mission.

Description of LocationLocated on the island of Leyte in the Central Philippines, Ormoc City is a beautiful seacoast town with rice and sugarcane farms and fishermen. Experience the friendliness and hospitality of these gracious people as you minister among them.
Local CultureYou will be well respected as an American and many assume you know most anything. Since you are expected to be professional, it is good to look professional - having a clean, neat appearance. Polite mannerisms and soft voices will be necessary.
Housing for VolunteersVolunteers will be staying in a local hotel or in Filipino homes.

Extra Cost Considerations:The total cost of this project is $900 + airfare. This includes a two day training camp in Atlanta, team outfitting, on-field transportation, lodging, meals, insurance, and all other mission-related expenses. Sightseeing and souvenir expenses are not included in this final project cost.
