SportsPlus Basketball in the Pacific Rim

Project Description:
This team will conduct basketball clinics in a country that is less than 2% Christian. They will have the opportunity to coach, play competitively, and build relationships using basketball on high school and college campuses. Students in this country love the interaction that occurs when they are able to build relationships with American students and young adults. Because this project is considered a high security one, applicants for this team should be mature and have the ability to follow specific instructions and guidelines regarding ministry techniques and opportunities. Both men and women athletes and coaches are needed for this project! The SportsPlus training camp will take place from July 1-3, 2008. SportsPlus Baseball and Softball in Central Asia

Project Description:
A SportsPlus team is needed to assist an existing baseball/softball league. The country has provided the uniforms and hats for the youth involved (ages include 8-16 years old). However, there has not been adequate training for the players. The local missionary is involved with this team and is using this as an outreach for the community. He needs baseball coaches and players who can run a camp for the team. They would do drills and teach the kids how to get better at each position. There will also likely be opportunities for competitive play against youth and young adults. This summer (2007) our SportsPlus team was able to build amazing relationships with the locals through these camps and scrimmages. Large crowds gathered to watch the events and learn more about why this American team was there. Naturally, it allowed opportunities for the missionary and the SportsPlus team to share with them the real reason they were there ...Christ's love and salvation. Join this team and return to continue the work that was started. The harvest is plentiful and many are seeking the truth of the seeds that were planted this summer. SportsPlus Soccer in the Kenyan Slums

Project Description:
This SportsPlus team will work with a Vapor Sports Ministries team in Nairobi, Kenya at a large sports complex. Work with Kenyan nationals who are using soccer as an outreach to one of the largest slums in Nairobi. Minister to children (ages 8-14) who are participating in soccer leagues by running the camps and clinics for them throughout the week. Also, practice and play competitively against the semi-professional soccer teams during the week. There will be other non-athletic ministry opportunities in the slum areas such as road construction, discipleship seminars for the soccer coaches and teachers and orphan ministry. SportsPlus Recreational and Orphanage Ministry

Project Description:
This team will assist with the staff of Tumaini Miles of Smiles Centre, which is an orphanage and school in Western Kenya. The team will organize a weeklong Vacation Bible School and recreation camp for the children in the area. There will also be opportunities to disciple children and adults who already have a relationship with Christ. This particular village where the SportsPlus team will be serving is practically untouched by Western civilization. A SportsPlus team served in this village for the first time in 2007 and was amazed at the potential of ministry. The harvest is plentiful, but the workers few. Come be a worker for the Kingdom in Kenya! Additional ministry opportunities regarding this project include conversational English discussions, youth discipleship and education, home visitations, construction and Bible studies. SportsPlus Ministry to the Invisible Children

Project Description:
You have probably heard of the 'Invisible Children' of northern Uganda. God has opened the doors for SportsPlus to take a team there in 2008. This is an area that has experienced a lot of trauma due to war between the Ugandan government and the Lord's Resistance Army. Girls were kidnapped to become prostitutes and boys were taught to fight and kill. Now that they are trying to work out a "peace accord" and people are returning to the villages, these children have many deep scars and need someone to minister to them and give them hope for their future. Our SportsPlus team will help local pastors host a sports and recreation camp for these children in efforts to minister to these broken lives. We will use sports and games as an instrument in bringing about Psalm 147:3 to these children: "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." We will use this opportunity to show these children how to have fun and hopefully regain a sense of what it is like to be a child again. Project Description:
This SportsPlus team will organize basketball, soccer, and volleyball clinics and games at a local sports facility for children and young adults. This team will help local missionaries form groups or individual studies for people who are interested in learning more about the Bible. The objective is to establish friendly relationships with those who participate in the sports activities and share your faith freely with them in conversation. The missionaries also have encouraged our team to build relationships and continue to disciple and share with students over the internet after our team returns to the States. Love soccer, basketball, volleyball, hockey or tennis? Russian students do as well! Sports is a great way to develop new relationships on university campuses. College students seem to be receptive to interacting with Americans about most anything, even talking about Christianity. Serve with local missionaries by building relationships with the students through various sports and other activities with the intent of creating small groups to discuss the Bible and other relevant topics. Other ministry opportunities include speaking in classroom settings on the campuses, participating in community outreach events and prayer walking. Project Description:
Greek teenagers need the Lord and love sports! That's why our SportsPlus team will join other ministers at a campground in Thessaloniki this summer. Our team will help facilitate and organize different sports activities and games throughout the day and use these opportunities to share Christ with the students. The campground has a large playground and field, a basketball court, and a soccer field. Each camper is invited to stay for one week and will be assigned to one of our SportsPlus members in a cabin of 5 teens. This will provide a great platform to build relationships with each camper and facilitate Bible studies and discussions in a small group setting. SportsPlus Evangelism in Venezuela

Project Description:
Be a part of a church planting team in Venezuela through sports evangelism! Work with missionaries by teaching, coaching, and playing various sports such as baseball and basketball. Other sports will be included, depending on the athletes that join this team. Through sports clinics and pick-up games, you will have the opportunity to meet other Venezuelans and share your faith and life with them in hopes of starting Bible studies and, eventually, churches. The team will work mainly in neighborhood parks, schools and playgrounds. The SportsPlus training camp will take place from July 22-24, 2008. SporstPlus "Salt and Light Outreach" in Romania

Project Description:
Sports ministry will be a big part of the Salt and Light Campaign as a daily outreach project. Every morning teams will be sent out for various forms of relational evangelism. Through conversations, acts of service, recreation and sports, and literature distribution, the citizens of Hunedoara will be exposed to the love of Christ through this volunteer team. Every person contacted by the team members in the morning sessions will receive a personal invitation to an evening service which will include Christian music and an evangelical speaker. Other ministry opportunities may include helping with VBS-type activities, construction, serving in a spa and beauty salon, and helping to beautify the city through service projects. SportsPlus Central Asia Women's Basketball

Project Description:
A high-level women's basketball team is needed to assist and work with newly developing women's basketball teams. This SportsPlus team will compete and also provide instruction for this country's Olympic team. Also, during the day the SportsPlus team will have opportunities to work throughout the community to provide clinical outreaches for the youth in the city. This project will assist current mission personnel as they build relationships with key leaders and students. We want to help them with their desire to educate, develop leadership and promote women's rights. This project will help address critical women's social issues that the country is currently facing. The ultimate goal, of course, is to share the Gospel with those our team develops relationships with throughout the course of the project. Highly skilled female athletes and coaches are needed for this project! As mentioned above, we will be working with a new women's basketball team and should be able to offer high levels of competition and coaching.
